The IUPAC name for the given organic compound is pentane as deplcted by the figure 10_04_014_07
As we can see in the given depiction of the organic compound a halogen so that chlorine is attached to the pentyle ( Alkyle Group) it gives us its IUPAC name as Chloropentane.
As soon as you see a -OH functional goup attached to an alkyl group you should recog nise it as an Alcohol . And the given alkyl group contains 4 carbons so it could be none other than butanol.
As the given compound contains carboxylic acid functional group so the suffix -oic acid should be added after Hexane removing (e) from it .
As the given compound contains 4 carbons and a -OH functional group which shows its name to be Ethanol.
All the members of a homologous series show the similarity in their chemical properties as they contain same functional group.
No sooner than you see the carboxylic functional group you should start anticipating the oic acid suffix to the given Alkyl group.So for the given compound it should be Butanoic acid.
As according to the given structure you could tell as you see the tiple bond and five carbons attached to each ather it shows the arrangement of an alkyne that is pentyne.
The molecular formula of cyclopentane is C5H10.
There is an upgradation in the physical properties of the members of a homologous series as we move forward in a homologus series.
