ICSE Class 4 Science How the earth moves
|
Planets revolve around the sun.
The movement of earth on its own axis is called rotation.
They are elliptical in shape.
Recall the concept of how Earth moves.
A luminous body is an object that shines by its own light.
Earth rotates on it's axis as well as revolves in its orbit around the Sun.
Planets orbit the sun in the paths which are known as elliptical orbit.
The closer a planet is to the sun, the shorter its period of revolution. The farther away a planet is from the sun, the longer its period of revolution.
This movement is from the Moon's orbit, which takes 27 days, 7 hours and 43 minutes to go full circle.
As Earth spins on its axis, we, as Earth-bound observers, spin past this background of distant stars. As Earth spins, the stars appear to move across our night sky from east to west, for the same reason that our Sun appears to “rise” in the east and “set” in the west.
