IGCSE Grade 9 Maths Dilations classify and find scale factor
|
Consider how a dilation affects the size but not the overall shape of the figure.
\\(The \\hspace{0.1cm}scale\\hspace{0.1cm} factor= {length\\hspace{0.1cm} in\\hspace{0.1cm} the \\hspace{0.1cm}image\\over length\\hspace{0.1cm} in\\hspace{0.1cm} the\\hspace{0.1cm} original\\hspace{0.1cm} figure  }\\)
To find the perimeter of the image, we need to multiply the scale factor by the perimeter of the preimage.
Area of the image = (Scale factor)2 \\(\\times\\) Area of the preimage
Consider how the scale factor of 2 will impact the side lengths of the triangle when multiplied by the lengths of the corresponding sides of the preimage.
Consider how the scale factor affects the dimensions of the figure and how that relates to the area.
\\(The \\hspace{0.1cm}scale\\hspace{0.1cm} factor= {length\\hspace{0.1cm} in\\hspace{0.1cm} the \\hspace{0.1cm}image\\over length\\hspace{0.1cm} in\\hspace{0.1cm} the\\hspace{0.1cm} original\\hspace{0.1cm} figure  }\\)
Given that the scale factor is 1:4, which can be written as 1/4, we can square this value to find the ratio of the areas.
\\(The \\hspace{0.1cm}scale\\hspace{0.1cm} factor= {length\\hspace{0.1cm} in\\hspace{0.1cm} the \\hspace{0.1cm}image\\over length\\hspace{0.1cm} in\\hspace{0.1cm} the\\hspace{0.1cm} original\\hspace{0.1cm} figure  }\\)
How does scaling the dimensions by a factor of 1.5 impact the overall perimeter of the figure?
